How to Choose a Wedding Videographer

Weddings are such special events, and if you are planning your own, you should consider hiring a professional videographer to capture every second of it. All those months of planning will turn into a day to remember, and the best way to relive your wedding is with a video. You know how a photo will capture an instant? A wedding film is like capturing a moment, listening to the sounds of laughter, crying, and speeches of all your loved ones.

But how can you choose the right wedding videographer? Where should you start, or what questions should you ask your potential videographers to make the best decision? I have a couple of tips for you to start searching for the best videographer.

Budget Compatibility

Weddings are all about love and budget. Ideally, when you determine your wedding budget, you should assign a percentage for each vendor. Start searching for the best videographers around and request their packages with pricing. It is better to know what is within your possibilities than to fall in love with a vendor and not fit it in your budget. Ideally, you should get estimates from at least 3 videographers.

Videographer Style

Each videographer has a particular style and different options for the final product. Each videographer has a certain way of how they film, and edit their films. Pay attention to the color, audio, and editing style to match what best fits your style.

Watch many samples to understand what a short film, documentary or cinematic styles are. Decide if you prefer a chronologic film that plays every moment as it happens, including vows and toast. Or if you rather have only music as background and highlights of the whole celebration.

Wedding Experience

Make sure you hire a professional videographer with wedding experience. Weddings have specific moments that must be captured timely because they do not come back. A wedding videographer with experience will have the correct equipment to record both image and sound, and they will know where to stand to capture you without interrupting the flow of your event.

Meet Before the Wedding

Your videographer will be around many hours of your wedding day, and if you choose to have interviews before the event, you will share intimate details of your love story. It would help if you met your potential videographers before you make a final decision. You should feel comfortable around your videographer and preferably have clear communication with them. If you can’t meet in person, at least schedule a call or video chat prior to the wedding.

Packages and Policies

Understanding what is included in the package you choose and the cancellation or rescheduling policies that apply is particularly important. Especially with everything changing right now due to the pandemic or other issues, it would be great to know what exactly you’re signing up for. In regards to your package, talk with your videographer about exactly what deliverables are included so there are no surprises. Share any doubt you have with them before signing your contract.

Important Questions to Ask your Wedding Videographer

  • How many weddings have you filmed?

  • Are you comfortable with my venue?

  • When will I receive my wedding video?

  • Do you have an assistant shooter?

  • What are the copyrights of my wedding video?

  • How do you choose the music for my video?

  • How many events do you book per day?

  • What does your backup process look like when filming a wedding?

Now you know many important wedding videography facts that you should consider while searching for the perfect match. Finding the correct wedding videographer is as important as choosing the right venue. Once the wedding is over, you will be left with the many memories you made and a film to relive them over and over.

If you’re still looking for a professional wedding videographer, I would be more than happy to hop on a call or video chat to talk about your love story and discuss how we can best capture your beautiful wedding.
